If you’re a long-time Oakland A’s fan, you’re sure to have suffered some of the heartaches that happen when your favorite players leave the team and go on to reach big success with another ball club. Coco Crisp had just that kind of success playing for the Cleveland Indians in the World Series Friday night. When a San Francisco Chronicle columnist tweeted about it, he didn’t know he would start a Twitter war on behalf of the A’s with…the Bay Area band Smash Mouth, of all things.
It started when the A’s Twitter account picked up Smash Mouth’s comment:
3 am Twitter beef between the Oakland Athletics and Smashmouth is what I live for pic.twitter.com/zXX7l2Eb4Q

The A’s have since made moves to smooth things over:
Hey @smashmouth – sorry we let our competitive juices get the best of us. Tickets and a 1st pitch are on us anytime you’re in the East Bay. pic.twitter.com/wfsKcBr1NW
