What happens when you mix EDM (electronic dance music) with post-Britpop? You get Coldplay and The Chainsmokers’ new single ” Something Just Like This”…and it becomes a Billboard hit. Pop dance duo The Chainsmokers have been feeling the love for their debut album Memories: Do Not Open with singles “Roses,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Paris,” and “Closer” featuring Halsey. The Chainsmokers are known to incorporate a number of pop artists in their music, this time getting a shot to work with Chris Martin from Coldplay. They tweeted about the collab:

Apparently, Coldplay is fans of The Chainsmokers, which made the duo comfortable in reaching out to the seven-time Grammy award winners. “Something Just Like This” is about a relationship that doesn’t need to be superhumanly perfect, but the song itself is close to perfection with Martin’s vocals over The Chainsmokers’ electrifying dance club beats. In an interview with Daily Star, Alex Pall from The Chainsmokers confessed what it was like working with the Coldplay frontman:
He was a raver in another life, he likes to dance. There’s a spirit of dance music that you can find in his lyrics, a tone, the same feeling you get in special dance songs. I can see why he’s drawn to it in the same way we are drawn to all of his music. We only hung out one time, but it was sick to chill with one of our idols and hear his opinions. We delved into his world.
According to EDM Chicago, “Something Just Like This” lyric video broke the all-time record for most viewed in a single day, gaining over 9 million views in just twenty-four hours. As for Coldplay, they’re having their own adventure of a lifetime as they continue their world tour following the release of their successful seventh studio album. Coldplay is even releasing a new EP, Kaleidoscope, on June 2nd. They’re also set to perform on October 4th at Levi’s Stadium. The Chainsmokers are playing in the Bay Area on May 5, 6 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. “Something Just Like This” has us equally stoked for the shows.
