Off Air with Arthur: Men I Trust, HOOPS, and Sports

Fresh off of giving getting permanent vision damage from staring into the eclipse, I’m back with 3 new off-the-beaten-path songs.

Men I Trust

I’m kicking it off with a selection from Montreal based indie-pop/dance band Men I Trust and their new single Tailwhip. It’s funky as f***. I feel the baseline, and the vocals are smooth and angelic. Jessy and Emma are on vocals, while Dragos covers production. They’ve been around for a few years now and consistently put out what they call indie dance music. Their Bandcamp reads: ““We love smooth sounds, calm melodies and simple rhythms that relax, but make your right foot tap and your chin bounce on the beats. We are all in DYI: we record, mix, master and shoot our music videos ourselves, and we’re loving it!”

HOOPS

Next, it’s up and coming HOOPS from Bloomington, Indiana with 4U, a cut off their 2016 EP Tape #2, which consisted of 5 or 6 short songs that ran only 14 minutes long. They’re a young indie-rock college band, a little shoegaze, a little groovy. I got to see them this weekend in San Francisco at Noise Pop’s 20th Street Block Party in The Mission, and they weren’t as tight as they are recorded. It could just be because they’re pretty young and need time to grow as performers.

Sports

Last but not least, I’m recommending Oklahoma band Sports (not to be confused the Ohio based band Sports) and their groovy jam Gotta Know Better off their 2016 album People Can’t Stop Chillin. The bassist and the guitarist are brothers, and the lead singer is their friend Cale. They throw it back to 80s rock/yacht-rock, which apparently I’m really into). I personally love “Gotta Know Better (I’m Crazy).” Check em out on Soundcloud (the right one).
