Joe Barham, manager of SF locals The Stone Foxes, stopped by our studio to chat with No Name about his 15-year career in the music industry, his passion for San Francisco music, and what it’s really like to be a band manager. As one of the founders of the San Francisco Music Alliance, Barham knows how important preserving the Bay Area music scene is, and has dedicated his career to the creative industry in this city. Barham has a wide range of experience in the San Francisco music industry— he’s highly acclaimed as a music video producer, a music supervisor for Warner Bros, and even KSAN’s music director and DJ, in addition to being The Stone Foxes’ manager. The life of a band manager is often described as doing several jobs all rolled into one— Barham even jokes that “one of the biggest jobs is being a therapist.”

The Stone Foxes are a perfect fit for Joe Barham and the San Francisco Music Alliance. The locals– hailing mainly from the foothills of the Central Valley– have dubbed themselves “San Francisco’s rock band.” Founded by brothers Shannon and Spence Koehler, they’ve brought “back-to-basics rock” to San Francisco in the 21st century. They went on their first UK tour in 2016, and they’ve spent the last year writing for their upcoming EP— they’re well known as a live band, but they’ve spent a lot of time and energy recording with Jim Belushi at Oakland’s New and Improved Studios. They debuted their single “Fight” at Stern Grove Festival, which was their first new release in two years. It’s a song that’s sure to get the crowd pumped up in concert, so don’t miss the chance to hear it live! 

Their national GiganTOUR kicks off in September at Los Angeles’ Bootleg and has dates across the country, ending in Seattle on December 8th. You can catch them at The Independent in San Francisco on November 17th, so mark your calendars!
