When San Jose rock band The Trims joined us for an early-morning Record Room recording session inside One Bad Apple Records, we weren’t sure what to expect. It was their first acoustic show ever.

But with a lead singer with Bono-esque tones and an all-around Brit-pop and rock sensibility (not to mention, some killer style), The Trims broke down their usually high-impact show with grace.

High school bandmates Gabe (vocals, guitar)  and Billy (drums, guitar) connected with Mark (bass) in the local San Jose music scene. Gabe had been playing bolero (slow-tempo Latin dance music – “romantic music”) in a trio for the first 7 years of his music career, and credits the lead singer of Trío Los Duendes for his love of the genre (he’s currently on the lookout for Bay Area musicians to form a trio with – consider this a casting call!).

Mark attributes the music of The Zombies, and a musical family that could often be found playing in the garage together, for turning him on to the power of music. Billy looks to supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

Before getting back to their set, where The Trims play 3 originals and cover The Doors, Gabe shouts out his pops for giving him his start in music. Mark adds to the grateful-for-music sentiment that “music is life…this is that escape that everyone looks for and needs.” Escape with us and The Trims above.
