It’s Seis de Mayo this Sunday, and with Cinco taking place on a Saturday this year, you might be waking up slow with margarita moments reverberating in your head!
Being firmly in the cap of those who parted long ways many years ago with the tequila god, we’ll not be venerating alcoholic overindulgence this year (can you believe both St. Patrick’s Day and Cinco de Mayo fell on Saturdays this year? I’m sure law enforcement enjoyed that). Too high a toll has been paid by the innocence for the idiocy of the easily led. But it’s a nice occasion to pull out tunes by Los Lonely Boys and Los Lobos, Ozomatli, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Chris Isaak’s “South of the Border,” “Mexico” by the Staves and a similar title by James Taylor, Jason Isbell doing Willie’s old “Pancho & Lefty,” and Jack Johnson covering Jimmy Buffet because, well…you can’t think of tropical drinks without conjuring up Jimmy Buffet!
And speaking of Ol’ Sparkle Suit, I’ll offer up tickets to see either Chris Isaak, or Melissa Etheridge, at the Mountain Winery in July. What a season they’re offering this year! Look it up right here.
