NASA may have made history Monday when it landed a spacecraft on Mars, but so did an East Bay rock band.
Apparently, “Green Day Since 1986” was etched on a chip on the NASA InSight Mars Lander.
After the InSight mission took place, Green Day tweeted their connection to the spacecraft.
Officially landed on Mars ππ€π½ "Green Day Since 1986" was etched on a chip on the @NASAInSight Mars Lander that landed at Elysium Planitia today. Out of this world. pic.twitter.com/WwNEKh4nxE

One commenter found it funny that Thirty Seconds to Mars was not involved instead.
The lander has been traveling for six months, crossing 300 million miles, a mission that more than half of the attempts have failed. Watch the video below for the scientists’ reaction to the Mars landing at the NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California Monday.
Aaah…soaking up the Sun with my solar panels. π After a long flight, and thrilling #MarsLanding, it feels great to get a good stretch and recharge my batteries. (Like, literally.) Itβs just what Iβll need to really start getting in tune with #Mars. https://t.co/yse3VEst3G pic.twitter.com/LpsiI0KNNz
