Did anyone see that coming?

Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” being the most-streamed song of the 20th century might have been boosted by the success of the Freddie Mercury biopic of the same name. But that couldn’t have been all it was. Since it’s release on A Night at the Opera in 1975, “Bohemian Rhapsody” managed to stay on the charts. Its place in Wayne’s World resurged its popularity in 1992, sending back to the top of the charts nearly two decades after its initial release. In 2004, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

The song edged out Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Guns ‘N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’Mine” and “November Rain,” and a-ha’s “Take on Me.”

Brian May, founding Queen member and guitarist, said in a statement, “So the River of Rock Music has metamorphosed into streams! Very happy that our music is still flowing to the max!” Not a bad win, 40 years later.
