Phone theft on BART is at an all-time high.
BART has stated that there have been 402 thefts of electronic items so far this year and BART police are handing out cards reminding passengers to not be overly distracted by their screens, as that’s what people look for before snatching them. Be especially aware of your surroundings if you’re standing near a door.
The cards compare holding your phone out to “holding a thousand-dollar bill in your hand.” BART police plan on handing out the cards between Embarcadero and Balboa Park stations.
