With her latest solo album Mental Illness released March 31st, former ‘Til Tuesday singer Aimee Mann performed her ballad “Goose Snow Cone” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This is her first album in five years, following her eighth album Charmer. Mann sang “Goose Snow Cone” over acoustic guitar melodies and orchestrated violins.
According to Rolling Stone, Mann described and commented on her album as:
Saddest, slowest, most acoustic, if-they’re-all-waltzes-so-be-it-record. I don’t know – people may have a different viewpoint – but that’s my own interpretation of the cliché about me. I mean, calling it Mental Illness makes me laugh, because it is true, but it’s so blunt that it’s funny.
In the official video, Mann is pet-sitting an ill cat named Goose. The pet owner takes Goose to be seen by a veterinarian for an operation, and she wonders how her life would be without her dear cat. After that, the title of the song makes more sense.
Mann’s music can be heard on Acoustic Sunrise with Rosalie and she can be seen live at The Fillmore on May 12th.
