Off Air with Arthur: King Krule, Elder Island, and Clairo

I cannot tell you how excited I have been to record this new podcast, mainly because of a brand new single from one of my favorite artists, King Krule, that I cannot wait to share. I’m also playing music from the Bristol-based band Elder Island and the elusive Clairo all this week. Listen below to get to know the artists.

King Krule

King Krule is one of my favorite artists, and finally, after four long years, he has released some new tracks. I first heard of King Krule back in 2013 when he was the musical guest on The Late Show with David Letterman performing his single “Easy Easy.” I was hooked on his music from that moment on: the rock-jazz fusion. The surly British accent. The rebellious attitude. I loved it all. King Krules’ first release 6 Feet Beneath the Moon had several standout tracks and I found myself clamoring for new music from the then 19-year-old. The wait for new music has been long, but it’s finally over! “Dum Surfer” is the second single off of his yet to be released sophomore album The Ooz, out October 13th.

Elder Island

I just stumbled upon Elder Island a couple of weeks ago, but ever since then I cannot stop listening to their most recent song “Welcome State.” This U.K. trio has been headlining and selling out shows across the pond when there has been nary as much as a peep about them over here. That’s a mistake; Elder Island is creating incredible beat-centric, soulful rock music that is really taken to the next level with gorgeous vocals from lead singer Katy Sargent.

Clairo

Clairo is an artist that lets her music speak for itself. There is not a lot of information floating around about this young Bostonian singer, yet Clairo has amassed thousands of followers through her YouTube videos and Sound Could channel. The hype has even lead to collaborations with heavyweights in the electronic music scene like Kaytranada. Clairo’s single “Girl” is a product of her collaboration with genre-bending producer James Deen, and it has been running through my head for months now. Keep your eye out for more from this up-and-comer; she should be releasing a proper album soon.
