Netflix’s MINDHUNTERS gets you inside the mind of the FBI’s best criminal profilers

Get ready for a week full of hot garbage, as my dear old grandmother used to say. The DVD releases this week are nothing short of awful, but there are a couple of Netflix releases that should somewhat make up for the dearth of quality on the DVD side.

Alicia kicks off the podcast with a review of The House starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler, who play a married couple who turn their house into a casino to pay for their kid’s college tuition. The premise sounds kind of funny, hell, the trailer even looks somewhat funny, but the fact that no one has heard of this movie is probably not a good sign, especially considering the fact it’s starring two comedic heavyweights. Also coming to DVD this week is the third installment of the Open Water series, which probably should have ceased before the first one was even released.

On the Netflix side, one of my favorite stand-up comics Christina Pazsitsky gets her first special with Mother Inferior. Christina was a cast member on “MTV’s Road Rules: Down Under” back in 1997, and since then has carved out a successful stand-up career. On a side note, her and her husband Tom Segura (also a comic) have a hilarious podcast called Your Mom’s House, which is definitely worth a listen.

The big Netflix original series coming out this week is “MINDHUNTER” (sorry for the all-caps, but that’s the way the title is stylized…not really sure why), which is an adaption of the true-crime book, Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by Mark Olshaker and John E. Douglas. The title of the book kind of explains it all, the series follows two FBI agents as they get inside the minds of serial killers in an attempt to get a better understanding of what compels them to commit their atrocities. I can’t lie, I’m a sucker for this kind of show, and I will definitely be binging this when it comes out October 13th.
