Oakland’s very own Ryan Coogler, director of Black Panther, Creed, and Fruitvale Station, can now add the Space Jam sequel to his credits.
Coogler will be producing the project starring LeBron James. According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming will take place during the 2019 NBA off-season.
An ESPN reporter tweeted that “Space Jam 2, while a part of the Space Jam franchise, is not considered a sequel.” Furthermore, he says “(Michael) Jordan’s level of involvement is to be determined.”
The original film is now over two decades old.
James said that Ryan Coogler’s vision for Black Panther made him the obvious choice.
“For Ryan to be able to bring that to kids, it’s amazing.”
