What’s it like to build a career as one of the top UFC fighters in the world, only to give it all up for a career in stand-up comedy?

Comedian, television host, and former MMA fighter Brendan Schaub stopped by the KFOG studio to chat about one of the most unique career changes in the stand-up world. Brendan and I talked about his ascent as a UFC fighter and he opened up about the steps he’s taken to ward off any lasting neurological impacts from the sport.

Brendan also gets into some of the challenges he faced during the career switch and explains why athletes and people who are conventionally attractive are oftentimes looked down upon in the world of comedy.

Lastly, Brendan tells the story of his first time ever doing comedy, a warning tale for anyone thinking of hitting the stage for the first time.

Catch Brendan this weekend at Cobb’s Comedy Club where he’ll be doing four shows this Friday and Saturday. The early shows are all sold out, but there are still tickets available for the late shows each night.
