When 19-year-old musician Kira Iaconetti was asked to sing through her brain surgery so that doctors could make sure they kept her talent intact, the true Weezer fan she chose none other than 2001 track “Island in the Sun” for her craniotomy.
The singer chose the track because it reminded her of her native Hawaii and because of her connection to the lyric “I can’t control my brain.”
After a video of Kira singing went viral, Weezer took notice. “Wishing you a speedy recovery, @kirakuuihe! Would love for you to join us at one of the show this spring – shoot us a DM + we’ll make it happen.”
