Watch: Spike Lee directs the Killers’ music video for ‘Land of the Free’

The Killers released a protest anthem today, titled “Land Of The Free.”

On it, Brandon Flowers addresses mass incarceration, gun control, and Trump’s proposed border wall with a gospel-tinged choir backing him up.

The video, directed by Spike Lee, was shot late last year at the U.S.-Mexico border in late November of last year. It includes real footage of migrant families being tear-gassed by U.S. border patrol agents.

Flowers sings “We got more people locked up than the rest of the world/Right here in red, white, and blue/Incarcerations become big business,” and about American policies at the southern border:

And down at the border
They’re gonna put up a wall
Concrete and rebar steel beams
(I’m standing, crying)
High enough to keep all those filthy hands off
Of our hopes and our dreams
(I’m standing, crying)
People who just want the same things we do
In the land of the free

“Land of the Free” is the Killers’ first new song in nearly two years. See Brandon Flowers’ personal note on the inspiration behind the music here.
